Inspired by Dr. Korie Little Edwards’s keynote, “Faith Communities, Racial Justice, and White Comfort,” how can you, your faith communities, and institutions, support efforts for social change on the local level? Below are some of the many local organizations and initiatives promoting justice.

Local Black Lead Faith Community Outreaches
Omega CDC: aims to equip individuals, families, and children with the resources, tools, and opportunities to break the cycle of generational poverty and achieve self-sufficiency through education, employment, economic development, and advocacy.
Grace United Methodist: provides free culinary training for community members, among other outreaches
Restorative Justice
Montgomery County Office of Reentry: Aims to minimize barriers to effective reentry
Montgomery County Jail Coalition: Aims to confront injustices at the Montgomery County Jail
Writers in Residence: teaches creative writing to youth who are incarcerated to empower their voices and assist their reentry, founded and directed by a Chaminade-Julienne graduate

Mission of Mary Cooperative: provides affordable, locally grown produce
The Food Bank: committed to hunger relief in the Miami Valley

Provide Respite Bags: an ideal small group activity to provide extra nutritional support
Equitable Education
Brunner Literacy Center – provides free individualized tutoring for adults pursuing diverse goals
Dakota Center – after school tutoring and senior resources in the Dessota Bass community
Advocacy and Community Building for Racial Justice
The Conscious Connect: neighborhood revitalization promoting Children’s Equity Zones
Parity Inc: advocating for social and economic equity within the African American Community
NCCJ of Greater Dayton: diversity education and consultation, empowering leaders for community transformation
Dayton Unit NAACP: Oldest and largest Civil and Human Rights organization in Dayton
Dayton Energy Collaborative
Unified Power: promotes fair housing in Dayton through community efforts
Co-op Dayton: organizes community movement and incubates cooperative enterprise for a just local economy.
